The assessment centre is directed by Dr. Michael Thomson, a Chartered Educational Psychologist registered with the Health and Care Professions Council as an Educational Psychologist (PYL21484). He is also a member of the British Psychological Society's Division of Educational and Child Psychology.

Michael was Principal of East Court, a leading specialist school for dyslexic children for 27 years and has been involved with dyslexia and specific learning difficulties for 40 years as a researcher, academic and teacher. Prior to founding East Court, he was a lecturer in Psychology in the University of Aston. He has published many academic papers on dyslexia as well as three major texts on dyslexia: The Psychology of Dyslexia – a handbook for teachers, Developmental Dyslexia : Its nature assessment and remediation and Dyslexia: a teachers handbook. He has also edited books of reading and conference papers on dyslexia and has also written a number of children’s books with high interest, low reading age content.

Michael is an associate of the British Psychological Society, a Chartered Educational Psychologist and a Fellow of the International Academy for Research into Learning Difficulties.

He is also an Executive Editor of Dyslexia, an International journal of research and practice and an Honorary Senior Lecturer in Applied Child Psychology at the University of Kent.
